South Sumatra Regional Directorate General of Corrections Strengthens Oversight of Inmate Vocational Development through SIMANDIRI
Palembang, September 28, 2026 – The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections of South Sumatra conducted an oversight activity for inmate vocational development through the Independent Production Monitoring and Reporting Information System (SIMANDIRI) on Monday (28/9). The activity is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the management of vocational development programs at Correctional Technical Implementation Units (UPTs) across South Sumatra so that they are implemented productively, measurably, and based on reliable data.
The oversight was carried out by utilizing SIMANDIRI as a monitoring instrument for the implementation of vocational development programs for inmates at Correctional UPTs. The system supports the monitoring of various aspects of vocational development, including the number of inmates participating in activities, the types of skills provided, production activities, production outputs, and the progress of program implementation at each UPT.
Through SIMANDIRI, vocational development data that was previously managed separately can now be compiled in a more structured manner. The data serves as a basis for monitoring and evaluation by the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections of South Sumatra to assess program progress, identify challenges, and determine follow-up measures to improve the quality of vocational development.
Strengthening this oversight is also aimed at ensuring that vocational development is not merely focused on production activities, but genuinely provides inmates with practical skills that can serve as valuable provisions after they complete their sentences.
“Vocational development must provide tangible benefits for inmates. They should not merely participate in activities while serving their sentences, but also acquire skills that can serve as valuable provisions when they return to society. Through SIMANDIRI, these processes can be monitored and evaluated in a more measurable manner,” said the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections of South Sumatra.
Vocational development programs at Correctional UPTs across South Sumatra cover various fields, including agriculture, fisheries, food processing, batik production, garment production, handicrafts, furniture making, and other productive activities tailored to the potential of each UPT and the competency development needs of inmates.
The utilization of SIMANDIRI is expected to strengthen the integration of vocational development data while supporting data-driven decision-making. Documented information can serve as a basis for developing programs, improving product quality, strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders, and creating greater market opportunities for products made by inmates.
With more integrated oversight and monitoring, vocational development is expected to become increasingly focused on building inmates’ competencies, enabling them to return to society with skills, work experience, and greater readiness to live productively and make positive contributions to their communities.
The SIMANDIRI oversight activity was carried out safely, orderly, and smoothly. The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections of South Sumatra remains committed to strengthening digital transformation in correctional management as part of its efforts to establish a productive, accountable, and sustainable correctional system.
